Auto-renewal success rates for credit cards issued from Indian banks saw a near drop to zero. Implementation of e-mandate authentication resulted in a trend towards previous success rates.

Local Payment Method API
Local payment methods (iDEAL, Bancontact, etc) were using the deprecated Stripe Sources API. Migrating to the PaymentIntent API allowed users to continue paying with preferred local payment methods.

Receipt Compliance
Rolling out tax-exclusive pricing to 23 new countries meant new requirements for email receipts. Collaborating with the tax team to implement new required data points brought receipts into compliance.

Grow revenue with billing.
One of the most exciting challenges I have had is to find opportunities to improve subscription retention (and revenue) by offering the right mix of payment method options.
For example, the potential revenue impact of integrating iDEAL payments with SEPA Direct Debit. By allowing users to set up SEPA Direct Debit payments for the future, the billing system would be able to automatically charge the customer in the future.
Comparing the renewal rates of subscriptions paid for using one-time payment methods with auto-renewed payment methods showed that annual revenue improvement was expected to be a minimum of $100k.
This was an exciting challenge because it showed that the billing system can also contribute to gains in revenue beyond single transactions.

The future is Open Source.
I have contributed to the WordPress open source ecosystem for over 10 years. In the past, this looked like volunteering to help local website owners with working on their sites or speaking at WordCamps (local conferences), or submitting bug reports to plugin developers. Most recently, this has been through merging new features to the WordPress.com billing system.
